Fall
The fall is meant for the design of our bridge. Each summer the rules for the next years competition are posted. We have several design meetings in the Civil Engineering Design Lab to try and work to improve aesthetics, weight, structural integrity, and ability to be fabricated. Everyone who is interested in joining has the ability to become shop certified through the Facilities and EH&S department at CUA. Once shop certified students then have the ability to go work in the McCarthy Machine Shop. During the fall the team also meets to work in the machine shop to work and become comfortable with the equipment available in the shop. Students also have the ability to learn proper safety and fabrication skills such as welding.
Spring
During the spring the team focuses on the fabrication of all steel members and connections for the bridge that was designed during the previous fall semester. Once all members are properly fabricated, the team can focus on the construction or build aspect to get prepared for the competition.
